The Challenges of Painting without a Studio

Painting in the winter months without a studio can be very challenging. The weather in Tennessee, especially on the Plateau where Miriam lives, continually changes from rain to wind and even snow. Sunny days become cloudy in a hurry, leaving little time to get one’s thoughts on paper. Add to that the fact that Miriam is 89 and is sensitive to cold weather as most elderly are, makes creating art a significant hurdle.

Miriam lives with Frank, her son, and his family in a comfortable and large master suite added to their home for her in 2022. The original plan was to build a separate building to house her collection and a space for a studio. Building costs skyrocketed after the Covid-19 pandemic and we were unable to afford to build the studio.
