2024 Lessons Learned: Newsletters

We had good intentions at the start of 2024 to send regular newsletters to our friends, family, and collectors. But..

  • We only sent 11 emails to our list in 2024 which is pretty pitiful.
  • Our newsletter stats on average: Open: 45%; Click: 8%; Unsubscribe: 2
  • Little engagement in terms of response. No sales from the newsletters.
  • We have a little over 80 subscribers currently.
  • We use MooSend.com (subscription). We like it.

We will put major effort into our newsletter in 2025.

  • It’s a channel of communication and relationship building we have 100% ownership of and control over (vs. social media platforms)
  • It’s a channel of communication and relationship building we have 100% ownership of and control over (vs. social media platforms)
  • It lends itself to deep discussion which we want to do with Miriam’s collection and career to introduce and educate collectors and art historians.
  • It might be developed into a direct sales channel.

As such, we began working with a newsletter consultant. We’ve learned…

    • See what’s already “working” for you and do more of that
    • See what’s working for others and emulate
    • Send a minimum of 1 newsletter per week
    • Add value to the reader with every newsletter
    • A good open rate is 40% or more ✔
    • A good click-through rate is 5% or more ✔
    • A typical response rate is less than 1%
    • Promote your newsletter every chance you have (Threads!)
    • You need between 1000-5000 subscribers to start seeing real impact

    In 2025…

    • We are researching some purchasable contact lists of art curators and galleries to use as introductions to Miriam’s work.
    • We send our email out on Sat at 7 am/1 per week for consistency.
    • We will get the newsletter to the point that we can sell a single, high-value piece to a collector or institution through the newsletter alone.
    • We will offer our subscribers value with each newsletter that’s more than just here’s what’s happening or buy this art.

If you want to read our past newsletters and or sign up for future ones, you can do so here.
